Holy Convoy

Big ideaDavid swore he wouldn’t rest till God had a house — but God swore a better oath: he would build David a house, a throne, and a Son whose kingdom never ends.
Breaker one-nine, this is Sweet Psalmist on the line;
got a holy load, and we're pullin' out on time.
"Ten-four, Psalmist, Steady Hand at the wheel."
Then let's haul that ark. Come on, let's roll it for real.
It was springtime up at Abinadab's hill,
where the ark had been sittin' twenty years, sittin' still.
I said, "Boys, I made a vow, and I meant what I said:
no sleep for my eyes and no pillow for my head."
Thirty thousand chosen men rolled out on parade,
with harps and with cymbals and a song as we played;
we loaded the ark on a brand-new cart,
like the Philistines did. Figured that was smart.
Holy convoy, haulin' glory up the road,
got the ark of the Lord for a heavenly load!
I won't close my eyes, and I won't lay down
till the Lord's got a home up in Zion town.
Found it in Jaar, heard in Ephrathah:
we're bringin' it home! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
"Breaker, Sweet Psalmist, we got trouble, I'm afraid:
them oxen stumbled hard, and the holy load swayed."
Uzzah reached out just to steady the thing,
and the Lord struck him dead in the sight of the king.
Every harp went quiet, every song went still,
just the static and the wind blowin' over the hill.
I got angry, then scared, and I hung my head:
"How can the ark come to me?" is what I said.
So we parked it at Obed-edom's place to stay,
and I turned that convoy around and drove away.
Over and out.
"Breaker, where's that ark been sittin' at?"
"Obed-edom's place, and his cows got fat!"
"His crops are high, and his house is blessed!"
"Ten-four. Psalmist, you know the rest."
So I read the manual that Moses wrote down:
it's Levites on the poles, not wheels on the ground.
Six steps in, we stopped for an ox and a calf,
and I danced before the Lord. Let the people laugh!
The trumpets were blastin', the people all shout,
and Michal at the window had her lip stuck out.
She said, "Real dignified, King!" and I said, "That's right:
I'll go lower than this for the Lord tonight!"
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
Now I'm home in my palace with the cedar all around,
but the ark's in a tent, and it's bringin' me down.
So I radioed the Preacher: "Nathan, here's the plan:
I'll build the Lord a temple, the finest in the land."
Preacher called back: "Psalmist, hold on, son.
The Lord says you're not gonna be the one.
You wanted to build him a house of stone?
He's gonna build you a house and a lasting throne.
He swore you an oath that he'll never undo:
there's a Son on your throne, and his crown shines new."
Holy convoy, rollin' on through history!
I swore him an oath, but he swore one to me.
I swore I'd not rest till he had a place,
but he's buildin' me a house by his sovereign grace!
Found it in Jaar, now it's Bethlehem:
the Son of David's comin' home again!
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!
"Sweet Psalmist, you still on the air?"
Ten-four. One more call comin' in from up there:
"This is my resting place forevermore.
Here I will dwell."
We gone.
